The Weathershield

Maria is from Venezuela. She’s impressed by the Danish women’s ability to dress up in a super practical way. The Danish life-style is challenging to tropical dressing habits. Maria’s mask is an absurd combination of diverse street-wear elements. Put on the top of each other, they create a very enigmatic head garment.

How on earth are the Danish women able to look so good, even bundled in winter gear and riding a bike all around town?
I had to change the way I dressed because it was impractical. Managing the cold climate, the biking and the cobblestone streets was quite impossible in high heels and a short summer dress, which is what women wear most of the time in Venezuela.
I also gave up wearing jewelry: earrings tend to get tangled in your scarf and bracelets turn icy cold…
The typical Danish woman sports a simple, laid-back style.
She’s dressed in a very practical way.”

How would you describe the way people dress here in Denmark, compared to your own country?

Obviously, the weather does that Denmark is very different from Venezuela. This, of course, affects the kind of clothes and styles one uses. But I’d say that the Danes wear a style that is simple and “pure”.
In Venezuela on the contrary, women wear a lot of jewellery, they spend a lot of time on their hair and make-up. You actually need to get your hair done each week.
Most of the Danish women don’t wear make-up at all and wear sneakers.

Have you changed your own way of dressing since you arrived in Denmark?
