Skandi Burka

Ekaterina is from Russia. She’s fond of the minimalistic Danish style. It’s very quite a contrast with the Russian tendency to show-off. To illustrate a style influenced by the scandinavian so-called law of Jante (Jantelov), I created a screen of grey wool. One sees glimpses of the woman hidden behind it through a geometrical pattern of holes.

The Russian style is what you would call “bling-bling” : show-off. Even if it’s only to go down to the grocery shop, a Russian woman will be at her best, put together, wearing high heels and the whole show. Here in Denmark, you would be totally overdressed if you did the same !
The Danish style is discrete and simple : sneakers instead of stilettos.”

How would you describe the way people dress here in Denmark, compared to your own country?

The Russian style is what you would call “bling-bling”. Show-off. Even if it’s only to go down to the grocery shop, a Russian woman will be at her best, put together, wearing high heels and the whole show. Here in Denmark, you would be totally overdressed if you did the same !

Have you changed your own way of dressing since you arrived in Denmark?

Yes I have. But I don’t know, whether it’s the Danish influence, or whether it’s because my lifestyle altogether has changed. Since I moved to Denmark, I also became a mom. Anyway, I gave up the stilettos, they’re too challenging on a bike.

How would you say the average Dane looks like?

The Danes are beautiful. They have a casual, laid back style.
